Gifts for Designers and Geeks

Getting a gift from a friend or loved one is the best. Below you’ll find some of my “I wish” gifts. Some are pricey, others not so. So without further a do, here’s my “gifts for designers and geeks list.”
The Wacom Intous4
I currently own the Bamboo, and while it was a great entry piece of clobber into the world of graphic tablets, I’m now ready to take a step forward.
The iPad Upstand
I actually write most of my posts on my iPad. This stand would be very handy, whilst connected to a keyboard. Also great for watching movies too.
The Smashing Book 2
I already bought this book when it came out earlier this year, but I would recommend it to ANYONE interested in web design. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s a thoroughly entertaining, informative and educational read. Top marks!
iPad 2
This is pure greed as I have the iPad 1 and am very happy with it. It’s more of a respectful nod in the direction of Apple. I use my iPad everyday, and do pretty much all of my reading on it. A great gift!
Samsung ML-1670 Black Mono Laser Printer
I still use a printer, not very often but I do use one. I like to see some designs on paper before I can make a decision as to what works and what doesn’t. The Samsung is a black and white laser printer so should be very economical to run and offer decent print quality.
Mobee Magic Mouse Charger
I own a Magic Mouse and I’m very happy with it, unlike its predecessor which quite frankly was very poor. The only issue is the battery. The charger would be an ideal gift for anyone owning a Magic Mouse.
Hitachi SimpleDrive Mini 500 GB
A durable external hard-drive is a must for any freelancer who’s moving around. Visiting clients, working out of your favourite cafe? Hopefully this offering from Hitachi will make the grade.
Herman Miller Chairs
Any designer spends a lot of time in his chair and back problems can be an issue. I know… Any of Herman Miller’s chairs would be a very welcome addition to my office.
Star Wars Han Solo Carbonite Chocolate
No designer’s gift list would be complete without some Star Wars geekery. Han Solo at his most desperate hour…and tastiest!
Forrst Design and Development Community
Forrst is an online community where designers and developers can come together and share their work, ask for critiques and even announce upcoming projects. It’s been a great help to me and as soon as I have a few extra euros I’ll be signing up as a supporter. Ty it out.
A Dropbox Account
I’m sure most people have a Dropbox account. It’s invaluable to anyone who uses a computer. Upgrading from the free account to the Pro 50 or Pro 100 has to be the way to go.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
I’m a fan. Call of Duty was the first game I got for the PS3, and although the single player game gets shorter with each new release, I still love it. This is a definite on my list!
Apple Cinema Display 27″
Mmmmmmmm. Yes please. I didn’t want to make this list too Apple centric, hence the lack of Macbook etc but, this would be very much appreciated by any designer. Delicious!
Boba Fett T-shirt
Boba fett, the coolest non geek that ever graced the galaxy. Why wouldn’t you want this t-shirt? Sold!
