Rockin’ Web Sites of Bands and Musicians
Written on 18 October 2011, published in Inspiration
The state of web design within the music industry is poor, very poor indeed. It can be hard work finding a great website to accompany a great recording artist.
I’m a music fan. My mother’s a violinist and my father always encouraged me with music. I started playing the guitar when I was 15 and still have the same 81′ Squire Telecaster, its left me, come back and been all the colors under the sun.
The thing with music, is that it makes people passionate, and passion always shows. We’ve all argued with our friends about who’s hot, and who’s not. Music is at the heart of fashion, advertising and cinema. Why is it then, that in a world as creative as music, that the standards of web design seem to be so low?
It’s very hard to find a musician website that stands out. Many A list band web sites are built in Flash, which means they’re killing a huge part of their audience. Your fans on iPhones, iPads and browsers without Flash can’t see your site! The web sites that are built in HTML etc just smack of template foolishness.
Who’s to blame? The label, the artist or worse still…us?
A band’s web site seems to be almost the last consideration of a record label. The importance of having a solid web site, that reflects an artist’s style is fundamental, an absolute must. Just as the web site of a freelance web designer should reflect his or her personality, so should that of a band, a business or an individual.
As there seem to be so few rockin’ web sites out there, I thought I’d trawl the web and put together some of the best for your viewing pleasure. Believe it or not, it took quite some time to compile this list. Feel free to add any worthy sites in the comments section below.
Rant over…Good luck!
